  The wines of Brazil

Brazil is the largest country in South America, but its quality wine production does not reach those of its neighbors (Chile and Argentina). Brazil has a tropical climate, whose heat and humidity make difficult viticulture difficult.

It is in the XVI century that the history of viticulture in Brazil begins with the arrival of the Portuguese colonists in 1532, who brought with them vines (Cabernet Sauvignon, Semillon and Chardonnay), which unfortunately did not withstand the climate tropical.

It was from 1970 that Brazil began to grow, thanks to the arrival of international wine companies. Most of the vineyards are located in southern Brazil in the mountainous areas of Campanha and Serra Gaucha, which enjoy a milder climate. Rio Grande do Sul is the largest region of production. The capital of wine production in Brazil is Bento Gonçalves.

The viticultural capital of Brazil is Bento Gonçalves. Brazil uses American grape varieties such as Alexander, Isabella, Catawba, Concord and Delaware. The main wine producing regions are, Rio Grande Del Sur, Northeast Brazil, and Vale de Sao Francisco. The very favorable climate in Brazil allows three harvests a year.
