Château Cap de Mourlin, Great Classified Growth of Saint-Emilion

All you need to know about Château Cap de Mourlin, in the Saint-Emilion Grand Cru appellation.

The history of Cap de Mourlin, one of Saint-Emilion's oldest estates, is far from ordinary. The Capdemourlin family has owned it for thirteen generations. Exceptionally, they have given their name to the locality where they live, as well as to their château. Present on these lands since the 16th century, as evidenced by a wine sale dating back to 1647, the Capdemourlin family have shared their love of wine and passed on their knowledge over the centuries. In 1983, Jacques Capdemourlin took over the reins of this Cru Classé (a position obtained in 1955 when the first ten-year classification was published) and set about rebuilding the vineyard. Major renovation work was carried out to give the Cru the very best in technology (construction of a vat room, an air-conditioned room for malolactic fermentation and a new barrel cellar). The 14-hectare vineyard, planted with a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, is located on the northern slopes of Saint-Émilion. It benefits from clay-limestone and clay-siliceous soils and subsoils. Cap de Mourlin's wines are authentic, generous and of real finesse, both in terms of the quality of their aromas and the precision of their tannins and structure on the palate.
