Château Dassault, Great Classified Growth of Saint-Emilion

Get to know the Grand Cru Classé, Château Dassault in the Saint-Emilion Grand Cru appellation.

Dassault is a special case in the Saint-Emilion landscape. It was the famous aircraft manufacturer Marcel Dassault who, in 1955, decided to give his name to the château - previously known as Château Couperie - after acquiring it. The château, created in 1862 by Victor Beylot, was a real "falling in love with" for Marcel Dassault. From then on, the estate benefited from substantial financial resources to restructure and develop throughout the second half of the 20th century. Michel Rolland, the famous consulting oenologist (and producer) from the Libourne region, was the first consultant on the estate in 1973. Today, Jean-Philippe Fort has been contributing his expertise since 2020. For many years, the 28-hectare estate was technically managed by Laurence Brun-Vergriette, whose father André Vergriette had been the estate manager before her. From 1995 onwards, Laurence Brun, alongside Laurent Dassault (one of Marcel Dassault's sons), made a major contribution, carrying out in-depth work in the vineyard as well as in the vat room and cellar infrastructures until 2019, to continually improve the quality of the wines, which show consistency in all types of vintages. Today, Romain Depons replaces her, with the same concern for the modern evolution of this classified growth. Since 2020, Christophe Salin has been CEO of Dassault Wine Estates, which in addition to Château Dassault includes two other properties: Châteaux Faurie de Souchard and La Fleur.
