Château La Couspaude, Great Classified Growth of Saint-Emilion

Discover the Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classé, Château La Couspaude in the Saint-Emilion Grand Cru appellation.

The precise date of creation of the La Couspaude vineyard is a little unclear. But the vineyard did exist in the 18th century. After several generations of different owners, Château La Couspaude was bought by Jean-Prosper Robin in 1938. But he gradually abandoned the vineyard in favor of Château Sansonnet, which he already owned. It was his granddaughter Edith who acquired the property in the late 70's, and with the help of her husband, Etienne Aubert, helped to bring the château back to life. The Aubert family was at the forefront of this renaissance, quickly making up for decades of hardship (wars, crises, etc.) and loss of interest in their wines. The Auberts, who have been in the wine business for over two centuries, and who manage 300 hectares of Bordeaux vineyards, are gradually restoring the vineyards and infrastructure. The 7-hectares estate lies at the entrance to the village of Saint-Emilion, on the heights of the limestone plateau of the Saint-Emilion appellation. Entirely walled, like the oldest properties in the village, Château La Couspaude is one of the Grands Crus Classés: a recognition due to the quality of its wines, its vineyards and its underground cellars, where each vintage is patiently aged in barrels. Its wines are considered to be in the purest Saint-Emilion style: powerful without lacking finesse. Today, Edith and Etienne Aubert's children and grandchildren have taken up the torch, perpetuating the tradition from generation to generation.
