Already well known in the 16th century, when its wines were already appreciated, Château Larcis Ducasse won an award at the Exposition Universelle in Paris in 1867. The property was subsequently acquired in 1893 by Henry Raba, a descendant of a great Bordeaux family of shipowners and merchants. He invested a large part of his fortune in the property, equipping it with a gravity-fed winery, a modern rarity at the time. Since 1893, his descendants, the Gratiot-Attmane family, have owned this Premier Grand Cru Classé B, which was promoted to this rank in 2012. In 2002, manager Nicolas Thienpont (Château Pavie-Macquin) and David Suire, on behalf of the Gratiot-Attmane family, significantly upgraded the estate, with the help of consultant oenologists Stéphane Derenoncourt and Julien Lavenu. Larcis Ducasse is situated on a clay-limestone plateau on asteriated limestone, with south-facing terraces on clay-limestone soils. The configuration of the vineyard offers a great diversity and range of terroirs, requiring parcel-by-parcel vinification for greater precision in the wines. The complexity and diversity of the soils are reflected in the rich profile of the wines, which are fruity and full of freshness, with good ageing potential in great vintages. Château Larcis Ducasse and Murmure de Larcis Ducasse, the second wine, are the wines of choice for the most demanding palates.
