The Alliance des Crus Bourgeois du Médoc is finalizing the new classification, which will be announced before March 1, 2025. This classification has three levels:
Cru Bourgeois
Cru Bourgeois Supérieur
Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel
The rigorous specifications aim to guarantee the quality of the wine. Terre de Vins noted this quality during tastings of the 2023 primeurs, a vintage which could be classified Cru Bourgeois once the 2025 classification is promulgated. Once eligibility is validated, the candidate must prove that they have obtained level 2 environmental certification from the Ministry of Agriculture.
Criterion 1: For additional mentions (Cru Bourgeois Supérieur or Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel.
Criterion 2: two additional criteria are required: farm management, plot traceability and vinification conditions.
Criterion 3: corresponds to the quality of the reception of visitors.
These three criteria are not enough to guarantee the quality of a wine; sensory analysis, essential and rigorous, eliminates the vintages which do not reach the required level.
