Volcanic Wine

It is a wine from a vineyard located on volcanic soil. In viticulture we recognize the impact of soils on wine styles and other parameters such as the varieties of vines used. We would tend to think that a wine produced on volcanic soil would be poor and ruined. And yet, volcanic soils have a diversity of qualities, with an ionic concentration significantly higher than other soils. The taste would be rather salty which can be found in certain wines and especially on the finish. Vines can be planted on soils of lava, ash and basalt deposits. There are different volcanic soils including Andesites, balsates, rhyolites. The global volcanic wine market reached a turnover of 9 billion USD in 2021 and 10 billion USD in 2022.
