Château Giscours, Classified Growth in 1855.

Learn more about Château Giscours, third Classified Growth in 1855 on the Margaux appellation.

The first vines were planted in 1552 on the initiative of a wealthy Bordeaux cloth merchant, Pierre de Lhomme, who acquired the noble house of Guyscoutz. In 1855, the property was included in the 1855 classification as a third Cru Classé. This recognition was justified by the quality and consistency of its wines. But it wasn't until the 19th century that the 300-hectare estate (including 95 hectares of vines) in Labarde was transformed into a neoclassical château, when the Promis, Pescatore and Cruse families invested in it, considerably transforming the former estate into a château with all the infrastructure required to produce great Margaux wines. It was also at this time that the park and the “Ferme Suzanne”, a well-known venue on the estate for numerous events and receptions, were developed. The 90s saw the arrival of a new operator and co-owner alongside the Tari family, Dutchman Eric Albada Jelgersma, who overhauled the buildings and vineyard alongside general manager Alexander van Beek. At the end of December 2023, Eric Albada Jelgersma announced that he had acquired all shares in the GFA of Château Giscours. Today, Dennis, Derk and Valérie Albada Jelgersma are carrying on their father's work, with the aim of ensuring that the quality of the wines continues to rise, while securing for Giscours one of the best positions in the reputation of great Bordeaux wines.
