Château Marquis de Terme, Classified Growth in 1855.

Learn more about Château Marquis de Terme, Fourth Classified Growth in 1855 on the Margaux appellation.

The estate owes its name to the Marquis de Terme in 1762, when he married Elisabeth de Ledoux d'Emplet, at which time the property was separated from the large Rauzan estate of which it was part. By the end of the 18th century, this fourth Cru Classé in 1855 was already a recognized and highly esteemed estate, if we are to believe the travel diaries of the great Thomas Jefferson, future third President of the United States, which included some of the wines he recommended during his visit to Bordeaux in May 1787. In the 19th century, after numerous changes of ownership, the château came into the hands of the Feuillerat family. In the 20th century, Marquis de Terme underwent considerable development under the Sénéclauze family, who acquired it in 1935. This Médoc Cru Classé, still owned by the Sénéclauze family, achieved unprecedented quality with the arrival of its general manager in 2009, Ludovic David, who initiated a thorough rethinking of plot management, integral vinification and a better environmental policy, so that the estate could express the full potential of the terroir's 39 hectares in the Margaux appellation. The wines produced are elegant and harmonious.
