Third Grand Cru Classé in 1855, located in the south-east of the Margaux appellation, Château Palmer's neo-Renaissance style is the work of two businessmen, Emile and Isaac Pereire, who acquired the estate in 1853. Later, the Bordeaux wine merchant families Mälher-Besse and Sichel bought the estate in 1938, with the ambition of rebuilding the vineyard and improving the infrastructure after the Second World War. Since the 1990s, the 66-hectare estate and vineyard have been entrusted to the expertise of general manager Thomas Duroux. His challenge is to reveal the nuances of the deep Garonne gravel terroir and to sublimate, vintage after vintage, the style of Palmer wines marked by Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot, all of which shape the subtle, racy character of the estate's wines. In 2008, the estate began experimenting with biodynamic viticulture, a practice that will be extended to the entire vineyard. With a touch of modernity that respects tradition, Palmer is today one of the most exhilarating margaux to taste, and one of the most respectful of the environment.
