Like Château Haut-Brion, Château Pape Clément and its 90-hectare vineyard are located in the heart of the town of Pessac. The history of Pape Clément is inseparable from that of its illustrious owner, Bertrand de Goth, the future Pope Clément V from 1305. Thus, seven centuries have passed since this world-renowned cru was founded, but it is also linked to another, no less charismatic owner: Bernard Magrez, the man behind 41 estates, including 4 Crus Classés. With Bernard Magrez, the quest for perfection is a dynamic, long-term process. Combining boldness and innovation with tradition, Bernard Magrez introduced hand de-stemming of the entire harvest in 2001. On the technical side, everything is gravity-fed to avoid compressing the raw material, the grape, which demands every attention in the process of making great wines. Parcel-by-parcel management is also key to shaping the wine's personality, which is rich in the different expressions of each grape variety and each parcel. The estate is also heavily involved in high-end wine tourism, with a number of luxury rooms for incoming guests. Pape Clément has been a Cru Classé de Graves since 1953, for both its red and white wines, and also produces a second wine: Clémentin de Pape Clément.
