BURGUNDY , A SPECIALIST IN WHITE AND VARIETAL WINES
Covering 30,000 hectares, Burgundy's vineyards are divided into five major wine-growing regions, each with its own unique identity. Chablis and Grand Auxerrois: renowned for their mineral white wines (Chablis) and structured reds (Irancy). Côte de Nuits: land of red grands crus (Vosne-Romanée, Gevrey-Chambertin), appreciated for their depth and ageing potential. Côte de Beaune: famous for its exceptional whites (Montrachet, Meursault) and elegant reds (Pommard). Côte Chalonnaise: offers accessible, high-quality appellations (Mercurey, Rully). Mâconnais: renowned for its generous white wines (Pouilly-Fuissé) and a few reds. To the south, Beaujolais produces fruity reds from Gamay grapes. Protected by the Massif Central, Burgundy's vineyards benefit from a semi-continental climate and a diversity of soils that shape exceptional wines. |

THE HISTORY OF BURGUNDY WINES
Renowned the world over, Burgundy is an emblematic wine-growing region, renowned for its refined wines and unique terroir. Although its production is much lower than that of Bordeaux, it stands out for its unrivalled quality. Red wines are mainly made from Pinot Noir, while whites are made from Chardonnay, two emblematic grape varieties of the region. Its winegrowing history dates back to antiquity, but it was the Benedictine and Cistercian monks who really shaped the vineyards and established the first classifications. As early as 1395, Duke Philippe le Hardi regulated production to preserve the excellence of the wines. Today, Burgundy shines through its varied terroirs, notably the Côte d'Or, Côte Chalonnaise, Mâconnais and Chablis, offering wines of incomparable richness.

Burgundy, famous for its system of appellations, reflects the diversity of its terroirs. Four levels of appellations structure the region: regional, village, premier cru and grand cru. Appellations Régionales: these cover the whole of Burgundy and offer good value for money, such as Bourgogne AOC, Bourgogne Aligoté and Bourgogne Pinot Noir. Appellations Villages: these wines, produced in specific communes, reveal unique characteristics: Gevrey-Chambertin, Volnay, Pommard, Meursault, and Chablis. Appellations Premier Cru: produced in renowned terroirs, these offer wines of superior quality: Chablis Premier Cru, Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru, and Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru. Appellations Grand Cru: The 33 grands crus, including Romanée-Conti, Montrachet and Chambertin, represent the very best of the appellations. The diversity of soils (limestone, marl, clay) and microclimates confers a unique richness. Key areas include Côte-d'Or, Chablisien and Mâconnais. Renowned domains: among the most prestigious are Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Domaine Leroy and Maison Louis Jadot. Burgundy, with its grand’s crus and rich geology, remains a world benchmark for exceptional wines. |
THE EMBLEMATIC GRAPE VARIETIES OF THE BURGUNDY REGION Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are the essential grape varieties of the Burgundy vineyards. Pinot Noir produces elegant red wines, combining power and finesse, with autumnal notes and freshness. Chardonnay produces dry, refined white wines, revealing their full complexity according to terroir and climate. Other grape varieties are grown in smaller quantities, such as Sauvignon, used in the AOC Saint-Bris, and Aligoté, typical of Bouzeron, which produces a lively white wine with citrus and dried fruit aromas. Burgundy is also famous for its Crémant de Bourgogne, a sparkling wine appreciated for its finesse and freshness, which completes the incredible diversity of this exceptional wine-growing region. |

BURGUNDY WINES
Bordeaux wines are renowned for their elegance and complexity. Made mainly from Pinot Noir for reds and Chardonnay for whites, these emblematic grape varieties reflect the richness and diversity of Burgundy's terroirs. Gamay, dominant in Beaujolais, and Aligoté, present in the Bourgogne Aligoté appellation, complete this unique palette. With 84 AOCs and UNESCO World Heritage status since 2015, Burgundy is the epitome of winegrowing excellence. As early as the Middle Ages, Cistercian and Benedictine monks structured the vineyards and defined the climats, laying the foundations for modern viticulture. Chardonnay comes in several styles: lively and mineral in Chablis, full-bodied and buttery in Côte de Beaune (Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet). Pinot Noir, grown in Côte de Nuits (Gevrey-Chambertin, Vosne-Romanée) and Côte de Beaune (Pommard, Volnay), produces refined reds with red and black fruit aromas and excellent ageing potential. Aligoté produces fresh, light whites, while Gamay du Beaujolais offers fruity, gourmet reds. Thanks to its unique terroir, varied soils and distinct climates, Burgundy remains a world benchmark, combining tradition and excellence, and producing exceptional wines sought after for their authenticity and aromatic richness. |
